Following on from our very successful Sing in September online singing day, we present two workshops exploring the wonderful Christmas music traditions of Russia and Poland. Join us to explore beautiful music from these two fascinating cultures in 2 x 90 minute workshops.
Featuring:
Zosia Kaszubska (Poland)
Zosia Kaszubska’s earliest memory of singing, is sitting with her father, when she was three, to learn a song from Belarus. In a way, that story encapsulates her lifelong devotion to singing and song. She cannot neglect the beauty of Polish folk songs, and she has an abiding love of songs that connect with particular occasions and ceremonies. As she grew older, she railroaded younger siblings and neighbours into a choir, later, at Uni, she sang with fellow students, as a parent she sang with her children. Songs give her life meaning and beauty.
Olga Emelina (Russia)
Classically trained from St Petersburg, Russia, Olga has worked extensively with choirs in her capacity as Deputy Director of St. Petersburg Children's Music School since 2008. She has been involved with the Australian Consulate in St. Petersburg organising musical soirée’s and events both in Melbourne and St Petersburg. In 2020, Olga and her partner find themselves unexpectedly living in Ballarat while the world deals with the pandemic. Olga is thrilled to be able to share traditional Russian Christmas folk music with us. She comes to us through a friendship with Ballarat musician and choir director Stella Savy.
